Death of a journalist

Richard Carleton has just died at Beaconsfield gold mine in Tasmania.

He asked a question at a press conference and then left, collapsing to the ground and dying soon after.

I believe the cause is a heart attack: Carleton had a history of heart disease.

John Howard has extended his deepest sympathies to Richard Carleton's family and colleagues.

"Whatever Richard was he was not a shade of grey, he was a primary colour," Peter Harvey said.

this was so sad-i was told by a person at work the other day when it happened...he was so influencial and will be sadly missed-although as he was also suffering from prostate cancer it was good to see that he didnt have to suffer with that illness...

another sad thing was of little sophie who was hit by an elderly driver yet again-the poor thing..why must fate lend such a heavy hand in these instances?!

:(

Richard Carleton not only asked the question on his mind, but the question on everone elses mind.

For that he will stand as one of the few contemporary journalists who, above all, pursued the public's right to the truth.
